The reviewer has a point: If you’re the sort who thinks the band peaked with OK Computer, skip this tour. If you’re the sort who’s dancing in your seat waiting for word of what they’ll do on their next full-length, then this tour is for you.

I for one will be in the front row, jaw planted firmly on the floor for the duration of the show.

You, sir, are an idiot. I was at the same gig and it was great, I loved the setlist, and so, it seemed, did the majority of people around me. You do realise they’re touring their new album, of course they’re going to do a lot of songs from it.

you people r in denial. i saw radiohead about 5 years ago and even tho they played creep and just they were still sooooooo boring, all cos of the new stuff. I can only imagine how boring they’d be without a few oldies thrown in, their new stuff isnt suited to the live arena imo. Altho its ok on cd mind.

sorry but i am what i beleive to be an avid radiohead fan. i partially believe that they should not play outdoor/arena gigs purely because of the attendance of ‘creep’ fans. This is not the 90’s radiohead. They have elevated into a different scope of music entertainment.
If you want to punch the air go to bruce springsteen, i did. But i think, and hope that other radiohead fans will agree, that there is nothing more uplifting than hearing exit music, how to disappear.. etc in a live set up. Yes, ideally it would be in a canle lit church but its not due to logistics. I myself luckily found a small gathering of like minded fans, thank god, who took in the essence of the gig that occured rather than the gig that was not to be.

This is the new radiohead. If your not into fair enough. Enjoy the ‘Best of’ which i will not buy!!!

Phil, even if you find them corny, they’re still the songs that are best suited for radiohead to play outdoors…and they really couldve done with a few upbeat moments, because that was one of the most boring gigs of my life.

Thing is I don’t think the majority of the audience who have stuck with Radiohead since their mainstream albums are interested in their “more appealling” material. Personally I prefer their Kid A and Amnesiac albums. The slow, meandering, electronic-tinged numbers that you obviously don’t like I find much more experimental and interesting than “Creep” “Fake Plastic Trees” etc. ie the corny Radiohead songs. When I was at the gig I didn’t hear or see one person moaning. Everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely. I thought they did a good mix of old and new.

I take your point Phil, and I guess my gripe wasn’t so much that they didn’t play a greatest hits set per se; as I mentioned, I applaud bands who refuse to pander to their audiences, but an exception has to be made for occasions such as large outdoor concerts, where it’s obvious most of the punters aren’t going so they can hear a bunch of obscurer material. So it was more to do with the nature of what they did play – slow, meandering, electronic-tinged numbers that simply flew off into the wind on such a large, outdoor stage. They didn’t have to play the greatest hits, but they could’ve at least made an attempt to liven up the stuff they did play.

I attended the Friday night gig at Malahide and I actually disagree with you. I take your point about them playing obscure less obvious songs from their massive back catalogue and partly agree that this may not be what some of the crowd wants to hear. But this is Radiohead, since when did they follow the obvious path. Their music and songs are deep and intense and the real fans recognise their intensity and I for one would of been dissapointed if they had churned out the greatest hits set list. I actually appreciate that they might play an unusuall and rarely played live song. Part of Radioheads unique appeal apart from their talent is that they always strive for new territory and don’t play safe. I think the EMI greatest hits that has just come out sums up Radiohead. I know that this was nothing to do with them, they don’t do greatest hits!
